There have been many writers who have secured, and ensure that the Bridge Alcantara is one of the architectural wonders of antiquity. And indeed, we were right. Being in Alcantara and cross the bridge on foot, is to give safe passage through the history of Extremadura. Built by Romans and used throughout the centuries by the Visigoths, Muslims, Christians ... has witnessed frequent wars, and maimed for it several times, most recently in the nineteenth century during the Napoleonic Wars.
was built in the time of Trajan (106 AD), to communicate the colony of Norba with Portugal, and its location was fixed at one of the deepest sections of the Tagus river (58 meters above sea level). It has six majestic archways point to rest on five pillars of granite regular padded seating, reinforced the central triangular with embankments to withstand the flooding of the river better. The bridge is crowned by a triumphal arch simple, semicircular bow and battlements. And at his feet, a simple temple, with aterazado gable votive all the gods, says in an inscription on the occasion of the construction of the bridge. It is certainly another gem to discover in Extremadura.
