Megía Nicholas Marquez represents the artist Extremadura more projection, both nationally and internationally, of the nineteenth century. He was a painter who grew a variety of genres, from the nude portrait, from the landscape to the historical or religious painting, as well as various techniques such as drawing, watercolor or oil, with rich production of around two hundred works including paintings, sketches and drawings.

Megía Nicholas Marquez was born (1845-1917 Madrid) Fuente de Cantos (Badajoz). At 21 years old, abandoned his medical studies in Madrid, despite the reluctance family, dedicated to his true calling: painting. Soon, get a grant from the Diputación de Badajoz that will allow him to travel to Rome and Paris, knowing firsthand the artistic trends of Europe, finally settling in Madrid in 1881 which set up his own studio and where exercise from 1886, as a teacher and professor of drawing.

His work as a painter will be reflected in a number of shares in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts as well as Universal Exhibition (1878) and in the prestigious Hall Paris.

Currently, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Badajoz devotes a very interesting exhibition, where we enjoy more than a hundred of his works, many of them from the Prado Museum and private collections to the next 20 March.
